Garh Palace Restoration
The Garh Palace, nestled within Bundi's Taragarh Fort in Rajasthan, is a testament to the grandeur of Rajput architecture. Constructed between the 16th and 19th centuries by the Hada Rajput Chauhan rulers, the palace features intricate murals and frescoes that depict royal life, battles, and mythological tales. However, over time, natural elements and neglect have led to the deterioration of its artistic heritage.

Alwar Royal Siblings
Manavendra Pratap Singh, the 24-year-old member of the Alwar royal family, has taken the helm of the restoration project. His sister, Janaki Kumari, a former criminal law practitioner, has also dedicated herself to this cause. The palace came into their possession through their paternal grandmother, a princess of Bundi. Their shared vision is to conserve and preserve the exceptional artistic heritage of the Garh Palace and transform it into a museum for posterity.

Artistic Heritage
The palace is renowned for its wonderful wall paintings and Rajput architecture. Also, the use of Indian yellow, a pigment derived from cow urine, was first seen in the wall paintings of the Garh Palace. The walls of the 16th-century structure, Badal Mahal, depict battle scenes, ceremonial elephant fights, court life, and private family life, like royal women swimming and mendicants praying.

Restoration Efforts
The restoration process began in 2020, following a detailed study by experts from The Courtauld Institute of Art. Challenges included damage from bat excrement, water seepage, and structural decay. The team employed traditional techniques, including the use of adhesives to stabilize flaking paintings and reconstructing collapsed sections using original materials.

Future Plans
The ultimate goal is to establish a museum akin to Mehrangarh Fort, showcasing Bundi's rich artistic history. Plans include immersive signage, audio guides, and the conversion of royal properties into heritage hotels. With infrastructural developments like the Delhi-Mumbai expressway and a proposed airport between Bundi and Kota, the region is poised to become a cultural hub.
