In the midst of such a heavily pan-Asian-dominated restaurant culture in the city, it is heartening to note that this restaurant has decided to specialize in what it does, choosing to showcase Malaysian cuisine with the respect it deserves. “The Penang Table” is a result of Malaysia’s multicultural heritage, celebrating Malaysian cuisine with influences from Malay, Chinese, and Indian cuisines without undermining their respective identities. While the restaurant does pay homage to Southeast Asia with Southeast Asian design elements, it does so in a subtle manner that prevents it from becoming too kitschy or bland. It is also designed with seating that is conducive to both socializing and private conversations. This is evident by the way it encourages diners to stay longer.
