The "Dream of the Desert" is Saudi Arabia's first five-star luxury train. Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) has partnered with Italy's Arsenale to design the project. The train includes 14 cars and 34 luxury cabins for private upscale travel. It will depart from the capital of Riyadh and follow the Northern Railway network, allowing visitors on board to experience spectacular natural beauty over millions of square kilometers of deserts, and the ruins of ancient sites. Expected start to travel: Q3 of 2026.

Project Details


This train is the product of strong associations with the cultures of Saudi Arabia, such as traditional Saudi architecture, use of earth tones, and high-quality craftsmanship. The design inspiration comes from the incredible and significant destinations, such as Hegra and Hail. Even the use of rich fabrics and decorative detailing, custom cut items, and geometric patterns is just some of the ways in which tradition and quality are represented in the interior design of the train. In addition to the vision of the project and train having a maximum of only 34 suites, it will also have a goal of exclusivity and provide an elevated custom travel experience.

Luxury Interiors


The interiors are designed by Aline Asmar d’Amman. Every suite and communal space has been intentionally designed to be beautiful. Suites are spacious and have handcrafted touches, desert colors, and Saudi-influenced designs. Lounges are comfortable with a historical touch; a design reminiscent of the traditional majlis or social lounges. Rich fabrics, woodwork, unique lighting, and decorative screens design the spaces. The intent is that design becomes part of the journey experience rather than just the backdrop.

Taking Dream of the Desert is a slow luxury experience, not just traveling from A to B. Guests will experience excellent service from staff, as well as dining, with an emphasis on local cuisine. The driving journey passes through regions of desert, heritage, and culture, such as Al Qassim, Hail, and Al Jouf. The driving journey will also include cultural experiences and activities, such as story-telling, painting, and local entertainment. Traveling to the locations will be a relaxed, immersive experience.
